Hearing Evaluation

Hearing Evaluation

The first thing we do at your hearing test appointment is listen.  Initially we will take a case history where we will ask questions about your medical history and listen to your concerns about your hearing.  Next we will perform a comprehensive hearing test inside our hearing clinic, using state of the art equipment.  Some hearing losses can be treated medically and others will require the use of hearing aids. It is important to have a thorough hearing test and evaluation using evidence based practice in order for appropriate recommendations to be made. At Peel Audiology and Hearing Aid Services’ you will always be seen by an audiologist registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). An audiologist is the professional with the highest level of training to diagnose and treat hearing loss. Come in to our hearing clinic today to begin your hearing evaluation process.

Our hearing clinic provides complete audiological testing for infants, children and adults. The series of hearing tests performed during the assessment will be based on your age and type of hearing loss.  At the completion of the evaluation the audiologist will counsel you on all of the findings including the degree and type of hearing loss that is present, and whether any recommendations are warranted.

Hearing Aid Selection

Selecting a Hearing Aid

The hearing aid selection process is a collaborative process between you and your audiologist. Your lifestyle and listening needs play a large role in determining the type of amplification that will best suit you. The audiologist will take into consideration financial needs, manual dexterity, size of ear canal and features that will provide the best hearing when prescribing hearing aids. Prescription of hearing aids is a licensed act which only registered audiologists are allowed to perform in Ontario. Our audiologists are experienced in all the latest technology from the smallest most advanced digital hearing aids to more economical models.  Peel Audiology and Hearing Aid Services is an independently owned and operated hearing clinic. This allows us to select from all hearing aid manufacturers when prescribing hearing aids.  When you purchase your hearing aid from us you know we are selecting from all available products.  Remember a hearing aid is always less visible than your hearing loss.

Custom Hearing Aid Fittings

Custom Fitting

After selecting the appropriate amplification, the hearing aids must be fit to your hearing loss.  At our hearing clinic, a computer is used to program the hearing aids to a prescriptive formula that is based on your degree of hearing loss.  The audiologist will make measurements to verify that the hearing aids are fit appropriately.  Achieving success with hearing aids requires proper fitting and counselling on realistic expectations. It takes time for an individual to rediscover all the sounds they’ve been missing, as most people have had some degree of hearing loss for several years by the time they have their hearing tested and receive their first hearing aids.  We feel education plays a large role in the ability to accept and adjust to amplification.  Through our hearing clinic, we offer classes to all individuals who purchase hearing aids and encourage their family members to join them. We are always available to make fine tuning adjustments on the hearing aids and for extra counselling.  It is essential to see an experienced audiologist who will assist you in receiving maximal benefit with your hearing aids. Lynne Burdett and Janet Michaud have been providing hearing tests and rehabilitation, to the Brampton community for the past 26 years. Initially at Peel Memorial Hospital and since 1996 at Peel Audiology and Hearing Aid Services. All hearing aids come with a trial period of up to 90 days.
